Competitive Beyblade Burst Launching Techniques
No matter how good your combos are, you can't win if your launch is poor. But getting good is not as hard as you might think, and all it takes is practice. And one last thing before you get started, make sure you understand how to build the best string launcher that you also have the sword launcher for maximum versatility and competitive edge.
"In Beyblade, your launching technique often means the difference between victory and defeat."
Proper Launch Technique (Control + Strength)
The first technique you'll need to master is easy; make sure you can safely grip the launcher without your fingers getting in the way. While keeping your secondary hand as still as possible, pull the ripcord or string with your primary hand with perfect control.
Control means being able to unleash your full strength and pull the string, but not all the way. Make sure to stop pulling right BEFORE the end, and NOT to the end of the string, and also being able to launch at lower power depending on your combo and matchup. And remember, check with your tournament organizer about the area you have when launching your Beyblade over the stadium, including how high you bring your combo. You'll want to make sure not to move your hands, launcher, and bey into your opponent's area because this can lead to injury if someone's hands/fingers get hit, or it might damage your launcher and bey.
Neutral Launch
When launching your Beyblade combo for the first time, and when learning to play, you should always start with a neutral launch.
This simply means keeping both your launcher and Beyblade perfectly horizontal or parallel to the stadium and its base. This drops you bey as flat as possible and allows for Stamina-type and Defense-type Beys to make it to the center of the stadium as fast and safely as possible.
This makes it a preferred technique for those types since neutral launching certain Attack-types and Balance-types might send them flying around the outer ring of the stadium, depending on the driver and combo.
Advanced Launch Technique #1 - Aiming
The first advanced launch technique to master is the art of aiming.
This might sound obvious, but many players don't realize how much of a difference it makes where your bey lands when it first hits the stadium. There are too many possibilities that depend on your combo, driver, the stadium, and other launch techniques that you use in combination with aiming, but in order to master the full potential and maximum effectiveness of your combo, you'll need to experiment and aim at different parts of the stadium when you launch.
Your aim will be limited because you'll need to stay in your designated player area. You must not interrupt your opponent's launch. As you try and shoot your bey at different parts of the stadium, you'll start to see how your combo behaves based on where you aim, what strength you use, and whether you launch neutral or use any of the advanced techniques mentioned later in this article. Only by practicing this way will you be able to master your Beyblade combo and become a better blader.
Advanced Launch Technique #2 - Bank / Angle Launch
Another advanced launch technique to master is the bank or angle launch.
This requires you to tilt your launcher so that it will be at an angle that matches the curvature or depth of the stadium you're playing on. As always, you'll need to experiment with this launch technique because results will vary depending on your combo, launch strength, and the stadium you're playing on. This technique can be used to launch an Attack-type or Balance-type bey aimed at the outer edge of the stadium, causing it to dash towards the center and hit a Stamina-type or Defense-type bey.
You can also use this technique to aim your Stamina-type or Defense-type bey away from an opponent who might be trying to aim and hit your combo, so can try and dodge the first few attacks before making it back to the center. Be careful, however, because if you launch too hard or your opponent anticipates your aim, it could backfire and help your opponent KO your bey. Regardless, this is an important advanced technique due to its versatility.
Advanced Launch Technique #3 - Flower Attack Pattern on B-33 Stadium
When launching Attack-types on the B-33 stadium, this is the most important technique you'll need to master ASAP. This technique starts with a bank launch and works best with the older aggressive rubber tip drivers such as Xtreme', Quick', and Hunter' -- only on the B-33 stadium.
With increased strength behind your launch, and at the deepest angle, you'll be able to shoot your bey aimed at a mid-edge portion of the stadium (before the outer ring), and your combo will make mini-circles that swing into the center of the stadium, back out towards the outer ring, and back into the cetner ring repeatedly, while moving in a circle, almost like it's drawing flower petals. You'll find that this technique is necessary to increase your chances of KO'ing or bursting your opponents bey thanks to the added force of the attack and faster movement.
You're Ready To Launch with the Pros
Now that you know all about the launch techniques, you can put them all into practice and determine which launch technique you need to use based your Beyblade combo, the opponent's combo, and the stadium you're battling on. Keep practicing and logging all of your experiences and information, and you'll be on the path to becoming the best blader you can be!
