Beyblade battles are always fun and action-packed, and your combo is definitely #1, but most players overlook the role of the launcher. More often than not, victory is decided by your launcher, power, and technique!

In today’s blog post, we’ll explore the necessary info about launchers so you’ll understand everything you need to know whether you’re a new player or an experienced blader.

For Parents - A Quick Rundown On Launchers

For parents who want to help their kids get started with Beyblade right away, here are the most important points to know:

Both Takara Tomy and Hasbro have two types of launchers: String launchers and plastic ripcord launchers.
Don't mix and match brands: Without getting into rare exceptions, only use Hasbro parts with Hasbro Beys and Takara Tomy parts with Takara Tomy Beyblades.

For Competitive Tournaments: The best string launchers need to be built with a Power Gear Unit, Metal Bearing, and the longest string.

Hasbro includes small ripcord launchers with most of all their products. These require you to insert a plastic ripcord with grooves into the gear housing (either into the R/right-spin slot or L/left-spin slot) and then you pull it out entirely to launch the Bey. They also release limited string launchers that have a switch to change spin direction. Players pull the string to launch the Beyblade, and the string winds back into the launcher like a yo-yo each time. For complete details, please refer to the included Hasbro instruction manual.

Takara Tomy includes small rip cord launchers in their older products. But with Dynamite Battle, the series features only String Launchers. Players need to be careful to NOT pull string launchers all the way to the end of the string's length. You need to stop pulling just before the very end of the string. String launchers from the Superking series are best for new players and kids because they are easier to use and more durable.

When launching Beyblades, please follow all safety instructions and keep your fingers behind the guard, away from the Beyblade, and be careful not to hit your opponent or yourself (into a wall or nearby watcher)!

Different Types of Beyblade Burst Launchers

When it comes to Takara Tomy, there are two main launcher types; string launchers and ripcord launchers. String launchers are the most common and versatile launchers you can get and use. These consist of a compact unit that has a rotating gear inside, and a string that detracts and wraps around the gear, similar to a yo-yo.

How to Use Your Burst String Launcher During Play

Hold the string launcher in your off-hand and make sure to keep your fingers behind the guard, and away from your Beyblade, to prevent injury. You position your Beyblade underneath the launcher so that the tabs of the string launcher fit into the top of the Beyblade, and you lightly twist it in the spin direction of your Beyblade until it’s secure. Make sure not to twist it too tight because if you hear clicking, you’re wearing down the gears.
Next, you take your dominant hand and get a firm grasp on the handle that's connected to the string. now, both players position their launchers + Beys above the stadium, as close to the opening without putting their Beys inside. Imagine an invisible life across the stadium opening, dividing it into two sides; one for you and the other for your opponent. Before, during, and after you launch, don’t cross that line so you can prevent hitting each other’s hands.
Finally, both players countdown, “3,2,1, Goooo Shoot!” and simultaneously pull on the handle of the string to spin their launcher’s gears, the tabs release the Beyblade onto the stadium, and the battle begins!

There are more detailed rules about launching and mis-launching, so make sure to check with your event about official rules. For example, when using the Prominence blade, the armor cannot come off until after the combo is successfully launched onto the stadium. The main thing to remember is that both Beyblade combos must touch the stadium for the battle to be official. In other words, if the Beys collide in the air before touching the stadium, the battle doesn’t count.

Different Types Of Burst String Launchers

Each series of Beyblade Burst has a designated string launcher. The GT series has a string launcher that has a switch to change between left and right spin. The Superking series has two string launchers; one for right-spin and one for left-spin. Superking launchers also have a clear plastic cover over the gear with a built-in sparking gimmick for added effects. The newest Dynamite Battle string launchers have a removable gear so you can swap the parts and make your launcher either left-spin or right-spin.

Beyblade Ripcord Launchers

The other, more rare launcher, is the ripcord launcher. This launcher also has a housing that covers the internal gears, but it also has a separate and long plastic piece called a “ripcord” that has grooves on it. When you insert this plastic piece into the launcher, the grooves interlock with the gears inside the launcher.

When it’s time to launch, you’ll pull the ripcord just like you would with the string of the string launcher, but this time you can pull as hard and fast as you want because you’ll need to fully remove the ripcord from the housing when you launch!

Other than that, the mechanism and principle of the two launchers are the same; Beyblades attach to the rip cord launcher the same way by inserting it into the tabs. In the beginning, Takara Tomy released small ripcord launchers with short ripcords for their early generation Burst series Beys. But over time, the gears became bigger and the ripcords became longer.

Eventually, the most popular style design of the ripcord launcher evolved into a sword-themed launcher that looks straight-up awesome. Although there have been both single-spin and dual-spin launchers, it seems that Takara Tomy makes all ripcord launchers dual-spin, simply by inserting the ripcord into either the designated “L” or “R” slot (L for left and R for right). Ripcord launchers are durable, but they are best used in short sessions.

NOTE: The small and basic ripcord launchers that come with all Hasbro Beyblades are good for beginners too, but should NOT be used for Takara Tomy Beyblades and vice versa. Basically, only use launchers with the same brand to avoid any broken parts.

The newer sword-style ripcord launchers from both Takara Tomy and Hasbro are the best choice for those who want the rawest power. However, if a ripcord is used frequently over a long period, the gears can become overheated and grooves on the rip cord might get slightly worn down over time.

Building the Best String Launchers For Your Play Level

Beginners

For new or young players, we recommend the Superking String launchers if you can get them. They’re becoming rare, but they are the most durable and robust of all the string launchers, while still providing ample power comparable to Dynamite Battle launchers. There haven’t been any safety issues reported with these launchers, but it’s always a good idea to keep these sparking launchers away from highly flammable materials just in case.

The Dynamite Battle launchers can be used from the start, or shortly after getting accustomed to the Superking launchers, but there’s something important to keep in mind. Official Takara Tomy instructions warn that the DB launchers should NOT be pulled all the way to the end of the string. Otherwise, this could break the gear causing the string to become stuck once fully extended and/or the plastic gears inside to break.

At this point, there’s very little you can do the fix your launcher and the string won’t be able to retract back into the launcher. You must exercise control when launching at full strength so that you pull it fast and you stop right before the end of the string. This is why it requires more skill by default.
